Brighter Planet provides the opportunity for all to get involved in the battle against climate change.  Their stated purpose is that they “help people manage and mitigate their environmental footprint.”  The Project Fund is their newest program. 

 How the Program Works

The Brighter Planet Project Fund provides monthly micro-grants to seed grassroots climate projects.  All of the projects are crowdsourced and Brighter Planet community members decide which projects receive funding.  In this way the Brighter Planet Project Fund seeks to foster local leadership and seed worthy community projects that will help people fight or adapt to climate change.  Brighter Planet contributes to the fund every time one of their customers uses a Brighter Planet debit card or credit card or buys offsets.

Any resident of the United States can apply for the Project Fund.  Every project must have a Project Sponsor; a sponsor can be any US organization with a tax ID number that is supportive of the project’s goals.

Brighter Planet members decide – as a community – which Climate Projects to seed.  The project(s) with the most votes at the close of a voting period will receive grants.
