Web Slice

Web Slice

Among other new features, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 introduces Web Slices.  According to Microsoft, “Web Slices are small pieces of syndicated content that enable users to subscribe to pieces of Web sites and notify users when these pieces have been updated. This frees the user from having to periodically check the Web site for updates.”

So, we have made this capability available on TheProfessionalEngineer.com.  If you are using Internet Explorer 8 while viewing this site, you will notice the new green Web Slice icon in a couple of places.  First you may notice it on the tool bar (right side).   Or you may notice it when you put your mouse on the “Recent Articles” section in the right side bar of this web page.  Either way, you can add TheProfessionalEngineer.com Web Slice to your favorite links bar, and from there you can select this Web Slice to get a list of the five most recent articles.  Enjoy!

Of course, this only works with Internet Explorer 8; but it does not break the page if you use Firefox, Safari, or Chrome.

You can learn more about the technical aspects of Web Slices on the MSDN Internet Explorer Developer web site.  We also found this Digital Inspiration tutorial useful, as well as this Devoracles post.
