Engineers Australia is the Australian national forum for the advancement of engineering and the professional development of their members. With over 80,000 members embracing all disciplines of engineering, Engineers Australia is the largest and most diverse professional body for engineers in Australia.  They work with government, industry and tertiary education providers to promote engineering as a discipline.  Their chartered engineers are regarded as trusted professionals not only in Australia, but worldwide.

Chartered Status

Chartered Status is exclusive to Engineers Australia. It is a professional credential recognized by government, business and the general public worldwide.  It certifies that the individual practice in a competent, independent and ethical manner and indicates the individual is a leader in their field.

Chartered Status is open to all Professional Engineers, Engineering Technologists and Engineering Officers. The Chartered title (Bye-law 24) may be held by those in the Member and Fellow grades in each occupational category: Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng), Chartered Engineering Technologist (CEngT), and Chartered Engineering Officer (CEngO).

Members admitted to Chartered status through current criteria and procedures that can be shown to be equivalent, may carry their Chartered title with the suffix (current year) – for example CPEng 2002-03, shown on their membership card. The date will advance from membership year to membership year, so long as the individual meets the requirements current in that year.

To achieve Chartered Status you must be able to demonstrate specified competencies at Stage 2 (experienced practitioner) level. The Chartered Status application process is a competency-based assessment with two steps:

1)  The preparation of an Engineering Practice Report linking the individuals work experience to the Stage 2 engineering competencies; and

2)  A professional interview conducted by senior practitioners from the area of practice.

Migration Skills Assessment
