Airplane Magazine Syndrome
“Things that happen because an executive (who usually doesn’t read such dangerous literature) reads an article about the “latest technology” in a magazine he got on an airplane. Expecting that he just learned a big secret that he must act on instantly he changes the course of mighty projects to ensure he does not get bulldozed by his competition (who probably already are working on the new stuff). Projects then get changed without due consideration of the technology, time gets wasted, and generally, all technical people (who knew full well about the new technology but were ignoring it because it was not ready for prime time) get upset.”
