CPEES

If you have graduated from a college or university outside of the U.S. and want to apply to be a licensed professional engineer, you will likely need to have you education credentials qualified.  The Center for Professional Engineering Education Services provides U.S. engineering and surveying licensing boards with credential evaluations that is used in assessing foreign-educated candidates for licensure. The Center is an affiliate of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). The Center was created to provide U.S. licensing boards with accurate and uniform credential evaluations that can be used in assessing foreign-educated candidates for licensure.

Mission

The Center’s mission is to enhance the mission of NCEES by providing services that promote uniform licensing procedures with regard to the evaluation of education qualifications.

Vision

  • The vision is to be the standard for accuracy, consistency, fairness, and uniformity of credential evaluations.
  • The Center aspires to become a clearinghouse for information on international engineering education comparability for licensure and registration.
  • The Center focuses on credential evaluation with ancillary services as requested or needed by Member Boards.

The CPEES web site outlines the application process, as well as providing all of the needed forms.  The fee structure and payment terms are also defined.  The web site also provides the means to check your active application status.  There is also an available newsletter called the “Center Bulletin” published bi-monthly.  If you do need to use this service, it would be good to start this process well in advance of when you want to take the professional engineering exam.  Also note this fact from a recent “Center Bulletin”: “only 21 percent of the evaluations released have been judged ABET equivalent. By far, the most common area of coursework deficiency is in the humanities and social sciences rather than in mathematics and engineering.”
