Engineering Career Info
A useful free on-line resource for anyone interested in exploring career opportunities in engineering is the Sloan Career Cornerstone Center: Engineering
The web site includes comprehensive education, salary, networking, job hunting, and career planning resources. Many resources are in PDF, PowerPoint, or Podcast formats. Besides resources for those considering entering the engineering field, they also have items for counselors, teachers, and parents.
The resources on this site explain what engineers do, describe what education is needed, and provide a glimpse into the activities of an average day of an engineer. The site also provides statistics regarding engineers - such as total number by discipline, salary information, and job outlook.
This information is provided in detail for 17 engineering disciplines, plus there is a link to “others” which provides information on another 10+ disciplines. A PDF brochure-like file is available for the main engineering disciplines, as well as a corresponding Podcast.
Be sure to also check out the “Meet Professionals” page. Over 430 individuals who have chosen career paths in engineering, computing, mathematics, or science have been profiled as part of the Sloan Career Cornerstone Center. Profiles are organized by discipline, and PDF files are available on each individual.
