Agricultural Engineering PE Exam Review Webinar Series

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) is an educational and scientific organization dedicated to the advancement of engineering applicable to agricultural, food, and biological systems.  The Professional Engineers Institute (PEI) of ASABE is presenting a new free webinar series designed to help a person prepare for the Principles and Practice (PE) Exam in Agricultural Engineering in the US.These live, online sessions will be presented by instructors from across the United States. Each two-hour segment will focus on one topic, collectively providing basic refreshers on the range of topics addressed by the Agricultural Engineering PE Exam. Fundamental principles will be reviewed and example applications demonstrated in problems similar to those that might appear on the exam.

The stated philosophy of the review sessions is:

Experts in an area do not need a review and those who are not experts will not become experts in two hours.

This series will provide basic refreshers on the range of topics addressed by the Agricultural Engineering PE Exam. Since participants are preparing for the PE exam, it is assumed that they have at least a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in engineering, several years’ experience applying engineering principles, and some exposure to most of the topic areas on the exam.

The sessions will review fundamental principles and show example applications of those principles in problems that are similar to those that might appear on the exam. Since this is a refresher series, the presenters are not expected to go into the more expert areas of their sub-disciplines. Following this review – and further individual practice- participants will be able to “pick the low-hanging fruit”, i.e., successfully solve the easier problems in areas outside their normal practice and thereby achieve a passing score on the exam.

It would be a truly extraordinary person who could walk into the PE exam without preparation and pass it. We all forget what we do not use. This series is intended to help knock some rust off of those unused tools so that one who is at least “minimally competent” and puts serious effort into preparation will be able to pass the exam. This series will provide a start into reviewing topic areas. Paricipants should plan on working additional practice problems beyond those presented.

These reviews are meant to aid and complement an individual’s preparation, but should not be construed to be sufficient preparation.

Some of the presentations to be offered include:

  • Soil and Water: Water Management
  • Processing/Handling of Biological Products: Unit Operations
  • Agricultural Engineering Principles: Core Agricultural Engineering Knowledge

The sessions are to start in May and go into September to prepare for the Agricultural PE exam which is only offered in October; check the on-line schedule to determine the exact dates of the webinars.
